Feedback


We talked to Dr. Manisha Mundkar (MBBS , DCH) for getting feedback for our design.

Below are the points of the conversation:

  • Easy to operate design
    • As controlling breathe rates, inspiration and expiration rates is very simple

  • Very handy in small govt. hospitals where there is lack of ventilators
    • Generally in absence of ventilators in small hospitals, a manual resuscitator is given to patient's relatives. Now instead of that we can use our ventilator

  • Affordable cost
    • An emergency use ventilator at ₹7000 is quite affordable

  • Can be used at homes with doctor's supervision

  • Incorporates all basic feature requirements of a ventilator
    • Pressure, breathe rate, inspiration-expiration rate is controlled, which is normal function of ventilator

Suggestions:

  • How to ensure Oxygen availability at home
    • At home ensuring continuous supply of oxygen will be a challenge in case ventilator is required for longer duration

  • Closed circuit can be more efficient

Our Journey

 It all started in August 2020 when we took Innovation By Design course under Prof. B.K Chakravarthy and Prof. Anil Gupta. In this course we learned about seven concerns of innovation which form the backbone of innovation process. These concerns are namely cause, context, comprehension, check, conception, crafting and connection. Our goal was to design a ventilator that would be affordable, easy to use and could be operated at home in case of emergency. In this journey we came across different kinds of ventilators which were designed to fulfill the same end goal. We studied their design and learned from the drawbacks of their design and tried our best to improve it. we understood the importance of systematic innovation going from cause to crafting and then to connection which included getting feedback from end user.  Overall the learning process was quite intriguing and creative. Thanks to our professors for making this course a creative and fun way of learning.

 This blog is developed to help elderly people or other people at this tough times of Covid-19. We are designing a portable ventilator, easy to use at home so that anyone in urgency can use it at their home if there's lack of availability of ventilator in nearby hospital.
